ChallengeExisting software does not have the flexibility to support the rapidly evolving creative process. The preparatory process in which we research, ideate, and develop concepts suffers from extreme tool fragmentation, leading to information loss and cognitive overload.
SolutionAn adaptable platform that centralizes the necessary tools and uses an AI co-creator to accommodate the fluid nature of the creative process. With customizable workspaces, Nova AI can conform to various needs and streamline the creative workflow.








	

Problem Statement



Inspired by existing struggles designers face in their creative process and many unsophisticated AI integrations in existing creative software, I decided to investigate why design tools aren’t considering needs of their primary user base - designers.

Research

I reviewed literature in cognitive psychology, machine learning, and human-computer interaction, with the goal of creating a good knowledge base in related fields. Precedent analysis revealed that most AI implementations among industry leaders follow trends and are replacing human creativity, instead of supporting it. These notions were supported by interviews with product designers at Hunch, concluding that AI should do the tedious tasks and leave creating to creatives.








	

Research Question &#38;amp; StudiesIn order to further break down my main research question, I decided to focus on three distinct parts of the creative process: familiarization and research, ideation and concept development, and creative block.

	Conceptual Framework &#38;amp; Investigation ModelThe conceptual framework combines concepts sourced from the literature review to ensure the studies are grounded in research. Most importantly, the framework is cyclical and focuses on the creative process instead of the outcome.




	



Solution &#38;amp; the Problem Space



Nova AI focuses on processes that happen in the preparatory stage - such as research, ideation, and concept development. It integrates the corresponding tools into a unified and customizable workspace to support the creative process.

User Journey Map
The research process&#38;nbsp;suffers from lots of tool fragmentation due to software limitations. Nova AI eliminates nearly all tool switching due to its integrated browser and ability to save and organize content.

The creative process introduces more tools which increases the friction and risk of information loss at transition points. Nova AI contains ideation and concept development in one platform, enabling seamless information transfer internally and externally.

	ContextI got a call from my friend Lorena a week before Art Basel Miami inviting me to be a part of her exhibition titled Who are you really?, at Blu Dot’s showroom in Design District.&#38;nbsp;She was creating paintings inspired by different areas of Miami and wanted me to create a takeaway item visitors can bring home with them. After ideating, we decided a set of postcards would be an ideal solution - I can design and produce them in time, they are portable, displayable, and shareable.






	

Process

Lorena shared her own moodboards, which helped ensure my interpretations of her chosen Miami neighborhoods are accurate and in line with her vision. I’ve visited Miami a number of times so I was familiar with the areas and their distinct characteristics. I used Procreate on iPad to combine my own photographs with found images. I love collaging and creating surrealist compositions, with clashing perspectives and proportions. I played with colors and textures in order to add dynamism and emphasize the energy of the specific neighborhood.

Final Product


The final set of postcards was displayed on a dresser, along with framed postcards that further integrated them in Lorena’s vision for Blu Dot’s showroom space. This was a busy entry/exit area which encouraged passer-bys to interact with the postcards and take their favorite home.

It unintentionally became an exhibition piece that inspired discussion, as groups gathered and analyzed the collage elements trying to place where they recognize them from.

I was tasked to create logos for the parent company, as well as their first product.Tasks:Create a logo for HoMetaCasino that balances their legacy in the casino industry and an innovative approach to the online gambling sphereDesign a memorable visual identity for WhalePlay as their leading platform that stands out from the competition and appeals to the target market.

Approach:Both logos combine sophisticated minimalism with futuristic elements, strongly leaning into balanced geometric shapes that offer stability.The visual identity echoes the core brand values - transparency, community, and entertainment.

	Landing Page &#38;amp; Game LibraryWe were tasked with designing the highest priority pages - landing and game library pages, with the goal of establishing a visual design system and a base structure their in-house designers would implement throughout the rest of the platform.Julia and I started with individual explorations, aiming to get a breadth of ideas we can pull from to create two directions to share with the team.

Process



Based on feedback, we combined the best of both initial designs and started developing the game library design, as well as mobile versions of both.A key challenge was adapting the designs for smaller screens while maintaining intuitive navigation across games and menus.We collaborated across all aspects of the project, with defined leads: I led project management and prototype iteration, while Julia developed responsive components and a comprehensive UI kit.

	A multimedia ad campaign promoting the launch of Shell’s new gasoline.











	

	






Context

During my internship at EssenceMediacom, I worked with the Creative Futures team on the media activation for the Shell Ultimate Road Trips (URT) campaign. My primary responsibility 

 involved generating a diverse set of ads for display on social media, various web platforms, and in-store distribution. 

Working with the URT logo which was already approved and

 a limited selection of assets provided by Fortnite, I adhered to strict branding guidelines set by Shell.


	

Brief + ApproachThe goal of the campaign was to get
our target audience to consider and choose Shell’s newest gasoline by
conveying its benefits through gaming. Research revealed our key target audience: mostly millennial men with higher household income, constituting 10% of all drivers and spending approximately 16 hours per week gaming.



Considering the audience and Shell’s needs, no
other gaming platform could deliver like Fortnite. These ads aimed to attract players to explore the custom Shell URT map in Fortnite.






	

Multimedia Campaign

The campaign extended beyond in-game advertising in Fortnite. My focus encompassed creating multiple ads adhering to strict guidelines and specifications for platforms such as IGN, Reddit, Twitch, and Google Search. Additionally, I designed the Shell eGift Card, a tear pad for gas stations, and a custom URT Fortnite map.

Collaborating closely with the copywriter, I adhered to Shell's internal web design specifications and capabilities to design the landing page for the campaign, including all necessary assets.

I directed the creation of a livestream ad for Thece, an advertising technology company that connects brands with gaming enthusiasts through native livestream advertising.

	A platform for language analysts powered by AI and ML.




	

	






ContextThe Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS) is a collaborative initiative between the intelligence community and North Carolina State University, established in 2013 by the National Security Agency.The LAS team provided my class with user personas and scenarios, forming the foundation for our project. Our approach involved human-centered research methods, incorporating primary and secondary research. This included frequent feedback sessions and interviews with LAS mentors to shape the project. Due to the classified nature of intelligence analysis work, we used the Nixon White House Tapes and a fictional country Kobia as a substitute source of content instead of typical data in this scenario.


 




	

The ChallengeThe core research question this project addresses is: How might the design of an interface use the affordances of ML to enable voice language analysts to quickly produce reliable and robust intelligence that accurately conveys content, intent, and context?More specifically, the tasks included:- envisioning a unified interface environment- prototyping new AI-powered search methods- visualizing data patterns- prioritizing language analyst needs and desires.Project partner: Adam Noel






	

Persona + User Journey Map



We received a persona and scenario, focusing on senior analyst Ferris, a quality controller (QC) specializing in Kobian leadership.&#38;nbsp;

Despite extensive expertise, Ferris faces discomfort in integrating new technology into his workflow. QC responsibilities include reviewing team members' work, mentoring, communicating with report analysts, and leading initiatives.


 Through a journey map, we analyzed his workday, uncovering pain points such as frequent task-switching, repetitive manual work, challenges in finding manageable cuts for QC within a timeframe, and 

 correcting others' work.

Benchmarking + Ideation

Given the classified nature of LAS and language analysts' work, there was no reference to existing software used. This granted us complete creative freedom, prompting us to seek inspiration from external sources. I explored precedents such as Grammarly, Notion, Genius Lyrics, and Descript. Using Miro, we initiated ideation on features and ways to integrate AI for minimizing repetitive tasks within the user flow.









	

Sketches + User FlowThe sketches underwent multiple rounds of feedback from LAS mentors and classmates during development. I focused on crafting a fluid interface, facilitating seamless navigation between folders, files, and various editing environments. Priority was given to enabling users to preview files before committing and AI features were strategically integrated to optimize workflow without compromising user agency. Descriptions of the user flow at this stage played a crucial role in conveying interface functions and minimizing friction during the transition to wireframing.

Visual Language + UI DesignConsidering the context of use where language analysts (LAs) often work on multiple screens for extended hours in high-pressure situations, I chose a dark background with subtle pops of color to differentiate key features. I paired legible Exo 2 with Inter.
Despite its rich functionality, the interface avoids overcrowding with buttons and aims not to overwhelm the user. Each environment within the interface selectively displays only essential features and information, enabling analysts to concentrate on their tasks.

The file explorer is equipped with advanced filters. These AI-powered tools offer QCers a quick insight into recordings and transcripts, aiding swift decisions on whether they have the time and energy for quality control. The time feature, utilizing machine learning, provides an estimate of the time needed for quality control, drawing from historical use and file-specific data, including jargon and audio quality. 
Language analysis and comparison with previous files label tracks with a language level, indicating the complexity of jargon used.&#38;nbsp;

Priority is set by the team and not the AI, as that is an important area for analysts to maintain agency.

Assisted Summary
Found in the transcription environment sidebar, the Assisted Summary addresses the time-consuming task of writing summaries for QCers. To streamline this process, the QCer selects vital script sections while reading, informing the Assisted Summary feature. The summary dynamically updates as the user adds more text and allows easy editing before forwarding it to the next recipient.

	Cut+Paste Fest is an international festival centered around contemporary collage.



	

	

Aesthetic DecisionsWhile creating the brand aesthetic I had to consider how the various elements and colors would interact with the featured artworks, which is central to the festival and the website. I wanted to balance a bold and clean look, as there was a lot of information that had to be well organized and easily accessible. I decided to go for a minimal color palette, alternating between blue and white background with red accents, focusing on geometry and layering.

Creating the WebsiteThe first step in creating the website was brainstorming the name, looking at websites with similar themes, and coming up with necessary sections and organizing them in a logical manner to create a sitemap. I proceeded to do lofi sketches in Procreate, fleshing out the website structure, before switching to Xd. I planned out a mobile version of the homepage, in which I made adjustments to the column layout and menu to accomodate for the smaller screen size.

	BrandingI wanted the logo to be graphic and reflect the theme of the festival. Shuriken Boy is a bold, decorative typeface that is characterized by geometric shapes and rounded corners. I paired it with Space Grotesk, which is a legible monospace font that contrasts the dynamism of the logo. Since there is a considerable amount of text, I went for Roboto as it is very legible and friendly.

	

CollagesMaking collages for this project was a fun process since I looked at various collage styles and emulated them, in order to create a variety of works that would reflect artists of diverse backgrounds. I generated names of international artists, wrote short biographies, and named their works in different languages.

	Final LayoutAfter writing all the copy and finishing the layout in Xd, I worked on adding elements and subtle hover animations that would help with navigation and embody the subject of the festival. Images of maps are of irregular shape and tinted red to fit the color scheme.Layered shapes help direct the viewers attention to important events, and a variety of dashed lines add visual interest.

Kameni spavač is a deck of cards inspired by medieval Bosnian tombstones - &#38;nbsp;stećci.


	

ResearchI have found these six books while doing research, and they were very helpful in getting more information about stećci and the decorative motifs used. These books had images that I couldn’t find any other place on the internet, as well as thematically organized motifs and sketches.

	Jack/Žandar


	The Jack/Žandar card is based on the stećak from Radimlja, from the 13th century. Radimlja is a stećak necropolis located near Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The symbol I picked for this card is a rosette, which are often found on stećci, either alone or arranged as ornaments/borders, and they come in many different styles.











	

Queen/KraljicaThe Queen/Kraljica card was based on queen Jelena Gruba’s stone chair. It has a beautiful floral relief and the queen on the side, with more details visible on the postal stamp I found while looking for additional resources. The symbol I picked represents grapevine, which is thought to be symbolic of femininity. I also had to find a solution for the letter K, since both king and queen start with a K in Bosnian. One of the bosančica sources listed many different variants of the same letter that were used on stećci, so I used two different variations as the solution.

	King/Kralj

To create the King/Kralj card, I combined elements from different sources. The first source I found was the stamp of king Tvrtko, from which I referenced the crown and sceptre, both featuring the Bosnian lily (Lilium bosniacum). This flower was and still is used as a state symbol, so I thought it was important to use it as a suit.




Because the anatomy of people found on stećci was often stylized, I decided to reference the sketch I found in one of the books, depicting a warrior with broad shoulders.







	

The BoxI decided to name my card deck by Mak Dizdar’s poetry book inspired by stećci inscriptions, titled Kameni spavač (Stone Sleeper).&#38;nbsp; That part of the text on the front of the box is a bit more prominent so it stands out from the rest of the inscription. The text in bosančica on the cover reads: Ase leži dobri čovjek i heroj kameni spavač i njegove karte//Here lies a good man and hero stone sleeper and his cards. I found that a lot of the stećci inscriptions began with ase leži and then described the person in a few words.The figure depicted on the stećak from Bratunac looked like it was peacefully sleeping. I paired with the text and placed it above his head, like the Guest Milutin’s stećak.

The side of the box shows people dancing the traditional kolo, often found on many stećci. This one in particular has both women and men.The back of the box features the name of the deck and a short description in bosančica, Bosnian, and English.The back of the card is inspired by this detailed relief on a stećak from Donja Zgošća, near Kakanj, dating from around the 15th century. Hunting scenes and people riding horses were often found on stećci, but rarely this well preserved.

volunteer. Since both my project partner and I graduated from the International Baccalaureate program (IB) at an international boarding school, we decided to make an app that we believe would help IB students fulfill
the community service requirement. My part in the project was creating the app prototype, whereas my partner Julia worked on
the illustrations and copywriting.

App StructureWe started off by brainstorming all sections the app should have and then organized them in a map. We thought about tools that we would have found helpful while attending an IB school, and considered the international environment of IB schools in adding certain adjustments within the app.

ProcessSince we had limited time for this poject, I did some quick sketches to sort out my thoughts and quickly plan out content, and then switched to working on wireframes in Xd. Visible above are initial wireframes for the signup process and how they look in the final version, with the added branding components. Some big changes between the draft and final is the added language and accessibility tab on the first page, and the option to choose between uploading a picture or picking an avatar.Shown here are wireframes and final screens from within the app. We decided to use the icons for categories as labels for events, and incorporated a slide up screen with additional information that opens when an event is selected. It was important for us that the user is able to filter their search results and see them on a map, to ensure they can find an event that best suits them and their needs.




	Accessibility Features
The international nature of the program is something we considered while designing the app. We remember having classmates that attended our boarding school who were still in the process of learning English which is the primary language of the IB program, so we wanted to make sure changing the language is an option right from the start. Additionally, users can also pick their preferred date, time, and distance formats, ensuring there is no confusion or missed deadlines. Included are accessibility options and adjustments for colorblindness, which we tested for both visibility and aesthetics.
IB Features
An important part of completing the service requirement for IB students is writing reflections. In our and our friends’ experience, writing reflections was often forgotten due to an overwhelming amount of schoolwork, causing even more stress. For that reason, we decided to integrate reflections in the events tab. That way once you complete a volunteering session, you can easily access the event info and complete reflections within the app.

The Mascot
We used the mascot to show
the user around the app to ensure they know how to navigate it. After the signup process, the bee gives a tour of all the tabs and explains what can be found in them. It also pops up within the app, as can be seen on the second and third screen, to let the user know about reporting an event or simply give them an encouraging message. The bee is always easily accessible as it sits right next to the logo at the top, so the user can tap it any time they feel lost.
Color Palette
The cheerful mascot is paired with an energetic but still calming color palette, with the goal of providing comfort in the very stress-inducing program. 











	Tabs
Events are additionally organized and color coded in the calendar tab, allowing the user to see what their obligations for the month look like at a glance.&#38;nbsp;

Volunteering is all about building community, so we decided to include a community tab - a place to share ideas and experiences on a local and global level.

	A visual system redesign for a Yugoslav band based on the perceived identity of music.



	



	

Cultural &#38;amp; Historical ContextThe debut album of Plavi orkestar (The Blue
Orchestra) titled Soldatski bal (The Soldiers’ Ball)
was released in 1985 and it was the highest selling debut album in Yugoslavia. The band members just finished their compulsory military service and were
suddenly catapulted into fame at 20. Created during the New Primitives movement, the album merges old and new traditions, satire and typical Yugoslav 
humor - a mix which some described as camp.
The original album cover was made by a member of a design group Trio, which usually manipulated existing mainstream works to create pieces that were often ironic and implemented elements of the local culture. For this album, they adapted an album cover from The Beatles by including Yugoslav historical and public figures.

Analysis of Sound and Lyrics
The first step in redesigning the cover was listening to the album and analyzing the lyrics and sound. Since the album was partially written while they were still in high school, a lot of the songs deal with relationships, unrequited love, and breakups. Some songs mention their military experience. They use a lot of traditional sounds, old words, current slang and combine them with pop rock, resulting in something like folk rock.



	Research
Looking for visual references, I did extensive research on discogs.com into the band’s discography, other bands that were popular at the time this album was released, both locally and globally. I also looked into what contemporary bands that have similar energy are doing today. One of the most challenging parts of the research process was finding good quality pictures of the band at the time of the release.I found that there were no unifying elements between Plavi orkestar’s albums, no similar colors, typefaces, or imagery.&#38;nbsp;I wanted to create a logo for them that is timeless, considering they have been active since 1985, and without consistent branding.

Visual LanguageWorking on the moodboard and then defining the visual language, I thought of various textures, patterns, colors, typefaces, and other imagery that reflects Yugoslav spirit and humor.&#38;nbsp;Talking to my mom about the 80s in Yugoslavia helped me a lot, since she could provide me with a lot of important references and information that I could not easily find online.

	Designing the Album
I thought a collage would be a good fit for this album because I could create a scene that reflects the times in which the album was made and encapsulate the Yugoslav culture and humor. Through research and my mom’s advice, I slowly gathered elements to use in the scene that embodied camp, but were still accurate for the 80s.

Final Album DesignEvery element on the cover reflects the spirit and culture of Yugoslavia. The name of the band is framed on an aged piece of paper, and next to it is a reference to the Yugoslav military badge with
the name of the album. From the framed tapestry and painted plate, to the framed picture of president Tito,
the traditional drink rakija, this scene is an exaggeration of what a typical Yugoslav home looked like. The scene is completed by the white crochet piece covering the TV,
which seems to be a cross cultural grandma decor piece according to my classmates.The back of the album features the song list separated by sides. Inside the gatefold album are the lyrics along with signatures of the band members. I made sure to include all information from the original album, such as the label and credits on the inside and back of the album.




	
Vinyl Labels
For the vinyl labels, I referenced images from discogs.com to accurately recreate them. I traced the Jugoton logo and found fonts similar to what the other information uses, and paired it with a recognizable blue color - referencing the band’s name (plavi means blue).

	Concert Poster
Since some of the band’s songs were written while they were still in high school, I imagined 
them having a concert and donating proceeds to the school. I recreated a typical high school
desk that is decorated with carved names and doodles, as well as books that would be part of
the curriculum. The poster features the illustration of the band members and the entrance of Prva gimnazija, the high school the event is dedicated to.&#38;nbsp;

	Spotify Banners
Spotify requirements for the banner do not allow promotion of any events, text, or busy backgrounds, so I just used an image of the band with the star to make the branding cohesive. The banner ad doesn’t have any similar restrictions, so I rearranged some elements from the album cover to reflect the feel of the album and grab the viewers attention. I also reformatted them to be used while a song is playing.

	Instagram Posts
I made four separate Instagram posts to promote the album as well as the concert. The first post has some elements from the album cover to signify a beginning of a new “era” and separate the future posts from the old ones. The third post shows the mockup of the album with the vinyl and the text is promoting listening to the album on different platforms or ordering it from their website, similar to the post with the star. The last post is an adapted version of the poster, with the text being bigger to accomodate for the smaller screen size.

	Sign up process for an all in one self-care app.


	




	

Problem IdentificationI started my research by looking into existing self-care apps and realized they all target very niche aspects of self-care. If you wanted to work on multiple types of self-care, you would have to download an app for each area. Having to use
multiple niche self-care apps creates stress, and making sure you
update your progress in each easily becomes overwhelming.A proposed solution would be an app that uses AI to create a customized self-care plan for each user based on their goals and preferences, covering all areas of self care and eliminating the
need for multiple niche apps.
PersonasAfter identifying the problem, I worked on creating some personas that would help me make this app suitable for a range of needs.

Lo-fi SketchesI downloaded about 10 apps and went through the sign up process. I noted down the formats they used to collect data from the user, which helped me develop a rough wireflow for my app. I tried to brainstorm a couple of different variations for each screen, thinking of ways they could be improved and made more intuitive to navigate.

Improvements and Hi-fi WireframesAnalysis of the initial wireflow and feedback from classmates helped me pick screens that worked best. I sketched them out in more detail before moving into Xd, where I built a hi-fi wireflow. An important part of the process was finding the right language to use since the app needs to approach the user with a certain sensitivity considering it is a self-care app. Good and bad habits became Areas of strength and growth.






	

Visual Language
Developing the visual language, I researched color and how it
affects us. I opted for colors that most find relaxing, but I also
made some more energetic color schemes. I wanted this app to
be feel like a safe space for the user and to encourage them ontheir self-care and self-improvement journey.
